Broadcast Notes: Tips vs Swift Current (1/21)

There are scintillating matchups, then there are scintillating matchups.

The Silvertips vs. the Swift Current Broncos represents a look at two teams only available  in the regular season to Snohomish County on a bi-annual basis. The Broncos were last here in the Obama Administration. Their head coach, Mark Lamb, back then is now in the American Hockey League with the Tucson RoadRunners. Tips head coach Dennis Williams was running the show in Bloomington (USHL). Carter Hart, who blanked Swift Current on 23 saves, wasn’t drafted yet.

How things have changed: Hart’s older, stronger, and with a fatter resume (last night’s 25th career shutout put him one shy of the league record, held by Tyson Sexsmith). Manny Viveiros is now in charge of Swift Current. Williams is now in charge of a torrid Tips team that has six straight wins, is 13-of-29 recently on the power play, and has 61 goals in the last 12 games. Matt Fonteyne has 20 points in his last (*drumroll …*) 7 games.

Tips: 1st in the WHL, PK
SC: 1st in the WHL, PP

Both teams combined: .690 win percentage, and 13 players drafted by NHL teams, signed by NHL teams, or set to play in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

Last night was fun. Today has the possibility of more of the same.
