BROADCAST NOTES: Tips at Victoria (3/17)

Simple stuff for the Everett Silvertips tonight: win or force OT/SO, they’re a division champ again.

Lose in regulation? They’ll need help (Portland is at Seattle, and if Portland loses, that’ll take care of the job too).

Last night for the 20’s in regular season play, combining for over 1,000 WHL and Tips games. Fittingly, Patrick Bajkov’s regular season curtain call comes 90 minutes away from his hometown of Nanaimo, BC.

The Silvertips have a magic number of 1 to clinch the U.S. Division title and top record in the Western Conference … they can clinch both tonight if:

  • The Tips win (or)
  • Portland loses (or)
  • The Tips lose in overtime or a shootout.

The Silvertips hold a four-point lead for first place in the Western Conference and U.S. Division with 1 game to play.

The Silvertips have clinched a playoff berth for the 15th straight season, the longest current streak in the WHL and home ice advantage in the opening round.

IF THE PLAYOFFS BEGAN TODAY: The Silvertips would face the Seattle Thunderbirds in the first round.



  • THANK YOU 20’S: Tonight is the final regular season game in the careers of Silvertips forwards Patrick Bajkov, Matt Fonteyne, and defenseman Kevin Davis … all are the top three leaders for games played in Silvertips history, combining to suit up in 1,026 WHL games, all with the Silvertips.
  • TORRID TIPS: The Tips have won 36 of the last 46 games … Matt Fonteyne and Patrick Bajkov each have eight points in 7 games to lead the Tips for scoring in March … the Silvertips have 4 games of scoring 8 goals or more.
  • NOT STANDING PAT: Patrick Bajkov, the leading Tips scorer, set the new Silvertips all-time scoring record with 264 points on Feb. 2, when he surpassed Zach Hamill with a first period power play goal … has twice tied his career high of 5 points … he is the Tips all-time leader in goals, points, and is tied (Zach Hamill) for #1 in assists.
  • HART OF THE MATTER: 19-year old Carter Hart, three-time reigning Silvertips MVP and back-to-back WHL Goaltender of the Year, leads the WHL in both goals-against-average (1.60), save percentage (.947) and shutouts (7) … he is in his in his 4th season with the Silvertips, the franchise leader in wins (115).
  • SPECIAL DELIVERIES: The Tips penalty kill is 1st in the WHL (84.3) … the Tips power play went 5-of-9 on Jan. 7 vs. Victoria, tying a franchise record for most power play goals in one game (5) … they are 13-of-38 in the last nine games … Matt Fonteyne leads the Tips with 16 power play goals.
